Peranakan colours
I recently got some Nevskaya Palitra (NP) watercolour and a no. 6 brush from Straits Art & Co. Nevskaya Palitra is art supplier manufacturer from Russian. I bought the turquoise blue (TB). Uncle Seng passed me Quinacridone rose (QR) and indanthrone blue (IB) to try when he heard that I am an urban sketchers. Haha! The perks of being an USKsger.
This brand is rather affordable. A full pan cost less than $5! The texture is creamy and the colours are intense. They tend to overfill the pan so the pan always ended up stuck to the palette cover.
I did a simple colour test on my Stillman and Birn beta sketchbook. Despite having the name as Daniel smith QR, NP QR looks more magenta than pink. The NP TB has more green tone than Holbein's TB. I haven't got a IB in my palette and the closest colour is the Holbein's Prussian blue. So glad that they are distinct enough and are not repeats of colours that I already have.
Next I tested the colours on an old sketch of the Peranakan museum. They really look like they are part of the Peranakan colour palette. How lovely! I should sketch a few more Peranakan buildings to paint.
