Asialink Bangkok sketchwalk 24-27 Nov 2016- Day 1

Day 1

I make it a point to attend at least one mass sketching event every year and this one was organised by the Bangkok Urban Sketchers. The event was free to join. On top of that, you could also apply to stay at sponsored lodging.

We were reminded to wear attires in sombre colours to respect for the passing of their beloved king. I don't usually wear black so I actually had to buy a black top for this event! Several of us from USK-SG travelled and stayed together at Dinso Mon. The hotel was five minutes walk from Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Center (RCAC)- the event venue.
All of us decked in black, waiting for our flight.

We arrived at RCAC just in time for the opening ceremony. After the sponsored lunch, we proceeded to the Grand Palace for our first sketch walk.

There were stations along the road side giving out sponsored food and drinks to people who came to pay respect to the king. I sat near to one of those station but was attacked by mosquitoes even though I had two mossie patches on. A fellow sketcher swore by mosquito coil. I might consider it next time.

After the group photo we had dinner at a nearby food place before going back to rest . I ordered bee hoon in gravy. Unfortunately it was too sweet for my liking. I came to realise that this was the norm in BKK.
More eating and sketching on Day 2...
