Asialink Bangkok sketchwalk 24-27 Nov 2016- Day 3 and 4

Day 3
In the morning we went for second breakfast this time at the local food  stalls near the canal. The boat noodle was amazing!

Sketching location was the Mahakan fort which was unfortunately demolished a few months after our visit. This small community of wooden houses has been here for more than 100 years. The people living within the fort sold drinks and snacks to visitors. Some of the buildings have collapsed and most of the houses were in a bad condition. There were kids running around naked and strays roaming the passageways. Save for the mosquitoes I was actually loving the rustic feel.

I walked to the edge of the settlement and sat down next to Kumi from Japan and we sketched the canal. She mentioned that sketchers in Tokyo meet up once in a few months because they stay at different areas and it is just not convenient for everyone to arrange for regular sketch walks. I realised how fortunate I am in Singapore cos we could just jio each other out for a quick sketch anytime we want.

Nearing the show and tell, I accidentally flicked my ONLY watercolour round brush into the canal while trying to get excess water out of it. I didn't bring another brush so I was in a fix but I had an excuse to shop at the event art stalls.
After show and tell, I joined a few Singaporean sketchers at a local cafe. Dried tom yam noodles - spicy stuff! We chatted and tried our hands at making instagram drool worthy shots.

Spicy Tomyam noodles!

We chatted till it was nearly time for the next sketchwalk at the golden mount. It was a long walk up the golden mount so I just did a quick sketch of the nearby temple.
There was a sketching event in the evening. Close to 50 of us sketched around King Rama III Memorial Park from 8-10pm. It was buffet of the year for the local mosquitoes that warm November night.

Day 4
The last day at Asialink sketchwalk and this time the activities were held at the ASEAN centre.

We lugged our luggages along as the departure flight was in the evening. It was a day of demos and workshops. I didn't sign up for any of those and spent the day just chilling and shopping. I replaced my round brush with one from Rembrandt and got a palette, two tubes of colours and another brush as well.
The loot!

The organisers provided each of us with a cash card with stored value for lunch at a nearby food court. Look at the spread.

We had a close shave in the evening as there were two taxi booking to different airports and we took the wrong one. Luckily we left a good three hours before the flight and we arrived just in time to have dinner before the flight.

I love sketching trips. There is no need to plan the itinerary. Sketch. Eat. Repeat.
